TarraWarra Museum of Art announces the launch of
The Locals, a New Free Entry Program

Jane Scott, Director of TarraWarra Museum of Art, (TWMA), is pleased to announce the launch of The Locals, a new, Free Entry Program for TWMA in the Yarra Valley.

Members of the local community are invited to join The Locals, which provides free admission to TWMA, a free subscription to the monthly TWMA E-newsletter and invitations to special events held at the museum throughout the year. Membership is for 12 months and is open to all locals in the surrounding area.

TarraWarra Museum of Art, opened in 2003, is Australia’s first significant publicly owned, privately funded art museum and a gift to the people of Australia from founders Eva Besen AO and Marc
Besen AO. TWMA is run as a not-for-profit trust with a charter to collect and display modern Australian art from the 1950s to the present day and into the future. The museum’s award winning building
houses masterworks by iconic Australian artists, displayed in themed exhibitions which change with each season. TWMA leads the way as an outstanding example of Australian cultural philanthropy and the creation of The Locals group will further enhance the opportunity for those who live in the district to enjoy all it has to offer.

Application for an individual membership can be made by visiting TarraWarra Museum of Art, completing a simple form and providing any form of official documentary proof of local residence.

Jane comes to TWMA following a long career in the museum and gallery sector, most recently as cultural attaché at the Embassy of Australia in Washington DC. “Art can provide new ways of seeing the world, it’s a pleasure everyone should have a chance to experience. TWMA is one of the key cultural destinations of the Yarra Valley and we look forward to the local community enjoying the museum as much as the tourists do.”
